Car has an alternator so I guess I will stick with just the volt gauge. The amp gauge just came along with it so I figured I would give it a try if it was easy enough to hook up and added value. Volt
Sorry Larry, BUT your "description" is FAR to "loose" (IMHO!!). <<Volt gauge needs to be wired between the car and the battery.>> That is "sorta" true. BUT there has to be a current flow. Meaning tha
I'm not sure that you are getting my mail so I'll send it to the list.. sorry list.. the exhaust clamps don't fit, ID is too large. How do we work the return? Thanks, Lester

When I said between car and battery I obviously meant between the ignition switch and the battery. So Ed, how do you identify and wire an EXTERNAL shunt type?
<<When I said between car and battery I obviously meant between the ignition switch and the battery.>> NOT on this List, Larry<G>! Keep in mind there ARE lots of newbies. <<So Ed, how do you identify

Keep in mind, the Lucas Volt Meter is slow to respond to voltage changes. I have one hooked up and it takes several seconds before the needle moves at all, and about 1 minute before it is registering

This is the link to where I obtained my opinion of amp gauges. http://www.madelectrical.com/electricaltech/amp-gauges.shtml This is the only way I've ever seen them wired, and the article is very det

I thought of one more reason "against" an amp gauge. I haven't ever seen one that reads above 30 Amps, however any alternator upgrade above stock will be capable of generating higher amperage output,
Not exactly so. Your battery would explode before it took 100 amps at one time. It's 100 amp/hours. Or something like that. You can drink a case of beer, 24 cans, but you can not drink all of them at
"It's 100 amp/hours. Or something like that." That's exactly what it is. Battery manufacturers specify the number of amps a battery can theoretically supply in one hour to go from fully charged to de
Now this is some really good information for a pseudo-non-mechanical kinda guy like me. I've always wondered about Amp/Hour ratings - now I know! I wondered about Ameter vs Voltmeter in cars - now I
