Do you replace the O-ring in the dash pot during the rebuild. It sounds like oil is leaking from the dash pot into the carb and being burned off. To replace the O-ring you will have to fish the star

There is an 'O' ring around the needle adjusting screw inside the piston that may be the problem. Mine was leaking very badly until I replaced this. The oil still leaks out over time but not nearly
