I''m contemplating adding an ammeter to a RBB. If anyone has done that, where did you mount the gauge as the dash has no provisions for it? Secondly, is it better to take the input to the gauge direc

I mounted my ammeter below the radio on my 72 which has the same dash as your 76, I believe. I enlarged the right most blank switch knockout (rear window heater switch) for my mount, leaving the bla

Not a good idea. All the cars discharge (except the starter) and charge current has to be routed via it hence the provision of hefty cables, and it introduces a number of additional points of failure

Hello Bill. I have added a Volt meter to my 67B. The volt meter is out of a 73 to 76 TR-6. It is a smith gauge. So it matches somewhat. And a volt meter is much easy to install. One side to a white w

Now hold on just a second guys. I thought you had to wire an ammeter in series. If you "split the large brown wire coming from the starter to the alternator", doesn't that make a parallel circuit? I

It's a classic issue for anyone who's over taught electrical theory, the 'flowing of voltage' ' through that gauge'. An ammeter must be wired in series with the current that it is measuring. The exp

A few months ago I raised the same topic for my brother. He has an ammeter in his Midget, but not connected. All advises were: don't hook it up. A Voltmeter is indicating the same: is my battery loa

I know I should just keep my mouth shut, but I have to disagree with your evaluation of the worth of a voltmeter. The voltmeter will show 13.5 or 14 volts constantly as long as your alternator or ge

Inductive pickup ammeters are available. Don't know if they are available for 12V systems or not, but that would solve the problem of adding more connections for the Prince to mess with. Walt Goddard

The ammeter and voltmeter tell you exactly the same thing - is the battery being charged or not - in different ways. For an ammeter to show a charge the system voltage must be above the nominal batte

One should listen - no doubt about it - and this can help diagnose a lot of things. Electrical systems, however, aren't always prone to make noises when they fail.. The gauges as a diagnostic aid is
