Can the Vitesse 2L Mk2 rotoflex rear suspension be used in a Spitfire4 (Mk1) or GT6 (Mk1) without great difficulty ? What parts must be modified? Any issues? Pros/cons? Any advice appreciated. TIA C

Short answer? Yes. It requires welding the appropriate lower wishbone brackets to the existing chassis and working out the shock absorber issue. The original swing-axle shock mounting will foul the r

Thanks for the advice Andy and apologies for the delay in responding. Unfortunately I have no leads on any GT6 (Mk2) cars or parts that might be for sale in SA. (Very rare indeed). Easiest then would

Thanks for the advice Dave. Highly appreciated. Think you are correct about the trailing arms. Most probably will be too long. Can they be shortened without problems? Don't mind the work if it means

Factory manual specs for the GT6 rotoflex trailing arm is 16.71 inches, for the Vitesse Mk2 it is 14.71 inches. Cutting and adding a 2' spacer is do-able but not easy. These are easy - no, no and no

I just picked up a 1979 Spit. The driver's side rear suspension is sagging. Is this hard to fix? I am not a master mechanic by any means, but I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty and learn a thing or

How can the rear of the car sag to one side while the front remains level? If this were really the case, the frame would have to be badly twisted. Possibly you really have two separate problems: 1: T

I'm assuming you also used the shorter earlier spring. Personally, I'd assume that when he said he used the short axles with the swing spring, it meant that he used the short axles with the swing spr

I guess I'm just a little slow today - I thought the swing spring was longer to match the longer axles. So if you put the short axles with the longer swing spring your camber would be way off. Last q

Yes, the swing spring is a bit longer. The goal of the modifications to the suspension was to minimize the jacking effect, inherent in the design of the swing axle suspension. This was accomplished b

Normally, I wouldn't think of arguing with Mark on Spitfire suspension stuff. However, the early "squaretail" Spitfires with swing-springs (1971 and 1972) still used the same length axles as all Spit
