To prevent the air gap, press open the thermostat with your fingers and install an aspirin to hold it open. Install the thermostat and fill with coolant. The open thermostat will prevent the air gap

Message text written by "larry stein" radiator but what about the block itself ? from what i remember doing this before, the block can develop an 'air gap' preventing from filling with coolant fluid.
