The only markings on the unit say "Cree", but I'm fairly certain that only the actual LEDs are made by Cree. The rest of the assembly (including the 'ballast') was made by some nameless company in C

You're right, the final pattern does depend on the housing (reflector and lens) as well as the bulb. But since the LED bulbs don't generate the same pattern as the incandescent bulbs, the result has
