Yes Bernard,
The failure of the diaphragm in the switch itself can and does happen,
thankfully not to frequently, never the less it does. And it is quite
disturbing when it does-until you can confirm that the problem is the
switch, and not the lack of vital oil pressure.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Has anyone ever had the oil pressure switch fail so it brings up the oil
pressure idiot light even though you still have pressure on the gauge.

I had a wee heart attack driving to work this morning when stuck in traffic
and the dreaded oil light came on and I had nowhere to stop. However, the
pressure gauge showed the normal pressure and I am inclined to to believe
that.

I've never heard of the oil pressure switch failing before and wondered if
anyone else had experienced this?
