While I have the big lumps out for overhaul (125 Kmi), I figgered it was a
good time to replace a u-joint or two. I took you gurus' advice to have the
drive shaft balanced and u-joints installed by a drive-line specialist. Glad
I did! A surprising amount of balance adjustment was needed, and the inner
shaft needed some straightening (caused a hot spot on the outer shaft). Woo!

I found a shop about 80 mi away near Charlotte, NC (Driveline Service in
Monroe, NC 704-282-0304) via the web yellow pages. Since it was a long
drive, he worked on it while I ate lunch at the local Chinese place. I'm not
making a recommendation - I have no idea if he did a good job or not, and I
probably won't know even after I get the LBC back on the road in a few
weeks, but he didn't want to use the Japanese-made u-joint I brought... said
the bearings weren't as good as 'merican ones. (total: $80, including two
u-joints) Dunno... but I feel a whole lot better.

The point? Oh, yeah... hey, as long as you're in there, why not have a pro
look at that ol' driveshaft. (I still remember 1969 when my '61 MGA dropped
its front u-joint as I drove over the local MG-dealer's garage threshold
with a complaint about a "strange vibration." This was five minutes after
exiting a 70-mph freeway. D'oh!)
