Yup, it works. Can't really explain why either - just a MHO thing which
probably isn't worth much. Been doing it since 1961 (TR3's) up to and
including my 6. Word to the wise...the mixture must be richer and, for
stromburgs, you need stiffer carb springs (at least for street engines)SU's OK
stock. In cooler weather it will tend to bog down on acceleration until the
carbs are thoroughly warmed up.
FWIW - back I '63 had a 'discussion' with the TR factory service rep over
this. After we both tuned the same car, he admitted it was more responsive w/
no oil (and other things). He then went home, did it to his TR4 and complained
it bogged when cold.
Feel lucky try it.
