        Mike:

Wow, talk about shipwrights disease! I approve.
Most people would have checked the clutch first. A true
shipwright says "It's a good excuse to pull the motor!"
        You are my kinda guy...

Just to update you all on my progress on the teardown of the engine from

hell. Using jamb nut method I removed 10 of the 14 head bolts today.
The
remaining 4 are soaking in PB Blaster. The whole impetus for removing
the lump was
initiated by a slipping clutch at speed. I had assumed that the cause
was a
leaking rear main seal. Actually the seal area is dry as a bone. The
clutch
disc is just flat wore out. The front seal on the tranny is kaput so
the inside
of the belll housing is well lubricated . Once I get the head off I
will
check condition of botttom end , pistons , and camshaft. Then I'll
really bug
you guys for advice. Mike C 71 TR6 in bits
