Smokin TR6

A few replies so far about the smokin' TR6. Everyone agrees it is the valve  
guides...does this correct itself after while? 
During the rebuild I discovered the tops of the valves were quite heavily  
covered with carbon. I was told the oil seeped down the valves and came to rest 
 
on the tops of the valves. Over time and with heat this caked into carbon. Is 
 this going to be a problem with the new guides?
