Bruce,

The TR250 & TR6 chassis were the same up through '72. 
The '73 chassis had the transmission mount changed
(lowered & pushed aft) in order to accomodate the
J-Type Overdrive tranny...providing you had a J-Type. 
The early cars' (TR250 & TR6) chassis were known to
have some "weak" spots & in the later years there were
gussets added.  I too am using a '76 TR6 frame
underneath my TR250...though it's not finished yet:) 
You can buy the gussets from some of the big 3.  There
were a few minor changes in addition such as the brake
lines to the calipers on the early cars were SAE & the
later were metric.  Probably a few other things that
I'm missing, but nothing having to do with structure
or body fit.
