I have looked at that circuit and with your answers, the only thing I come =
up with is defective voltage regulator (that is based on testing as indicat=
ed below).  There really isn't much to go wrong with the alternator itself.=
  However, regulators and off shore sourcing can be a real problem.  If the=
y are made in china who knows if they will work or not.  If the rebuilt alt=
ernators are using new stock regulators there could be a bad lot of them ou=
t there.

Actually, no they don't have the facilities.  However, I have taken the 2nd=
 alternator to a local auto electric shop where they tested it and it's onl=
y putting out a little over 13 volts which I do not believe is enough.  I p=
lan to retrieve my original alternator and have it re-built (which I should=
 have done in the first place).

   Here's a synopsis - Almost new battery went dead. Charged battery and to=
ok car to shop. Meter shows alternator is not charging battery (only 12 vol=
ts, not 14.6 as per Dan Master's book). Buy rebuilt alternator and the same=
 thing happens.  Swap alternator for a second rebuilt unit - same thing, ba=
ttery is not being charged. Tried 3 different meters - all showed 12 volts.=
  Hard to believe I got 2 bad rebuilt alternators.  What's wrong??
