Another very common cause of dim dash lights is dirty guage glass covers.
I was absolutely astonished how much brighter and sharper my guages were
after I took off the glass and cleaned them inside.  I never would have
guess from looking at them how dirty they really became.  I guess since it
happens gradually, it's like that older guy in the mirror who, in my mind,
looks no different than he did 20 years ago  :~ (
