Tigerdirect.com sells a "firewall" box that goes between your cable/dsl modem
for $29.00 that cures this problem. as stated in 1 of the other replys your
modems are connected to the net wether you are online or not (does not apply to
dialup modems), making your computer vunerable to outside attack. this device
prevents unauthorized access, and only opens the ports when you decide to go
online. It also prevents a virus or worm from sending e-mail without your
knowledge.
