I realize that this is probably too late for Ohan, but I thought I would
try to pull together information from my archives for others, and for
Eddie Donovan (who has been keeping up the interchangeable parts list).

First, for those who have a Series V set-up (and aren't wanting to dump
the Prince of Darkness!), Lucas alternators from the later MGB (Jan
Servaites, Doug Jennings) or Jag E-type (Julian Cranwell) are a bolt-on.

Second, for those who want to convert, first stop should be Tom Wiencek's tech 
tip at T.J. Higgins' "Alpines - 1959-68"

where Tom discusses using a Mitsubishi alternator from a 78-80 Datsun,
82-84 Mazda B2000, or 82-84 Ford Courier.
(Lou Meyers used a cheaper version of this alternator, which worked well).

Also, a Datsun 45 amp from early 80's truck bolts up with a Datsun
bracket - alternator part #14231 - not single wire - about $40
rebuilt(Jim Ellis)

Jay Laifman also used the Mitsubishi # 14231 - 45 amp -required slight
mods, but also found a Hitachi 35 amp (70-77 Nissan pick-up+ B210).
(Also lengthy thread on wiring problems)

Higher Amperage Conversions
 
HerBeam (Bob) used a 61 amp GM - one wire - 29.95 rebuilt, but had to
make bracket and change pulleys (available from Morosco Racing Products).

Jon Arzt used a 90 Amp Bosch unit from 85-92 VW Golf and used original wires.

Chris Albers used a 110 Amp GM single wire, but had to make a mount for
it.
