All the recent back and forth on Cobras in FS got me thinking about
whether the 1999 season might hold any particular surprises in Stock
class. Has anyone else looked at the new model year offerings for
possible sleepers? Just to seed discussion, here are my "car to
watch" nominees:

AS Porsche Boxster

These things are *very* fast in slaloms on street tires from reports
I've seen. I haven't seen one autoxing yet, though I think one or two
might show up locally this year.

BS BMW 328i sedan w/Sport package

17x8 wheels on a 3200lb, 193hp car in B Stock? Kinda heavy, but it
might trash the Miatas on faster courses.

ES Honda Civic Si coupe

IMO Civics I've driven needed stiffer suspension and more motor, and
now one has them. Will it be enough to catch the Celica GT?

FS Mustang Cobra

Will getting rid of the awful Fairmont rear end be enough to dethrone
the F-body? stay tuned...

GS Everything

Who knows...it's the Car of the Month Club after all. Type R? F-body
V6 with the new Torsen diff? Some lurking Mercedes 280 or Volvo
Turbo, perchance? Never a dull moment...

HS Chevy S-10/GMC Sonoma

It sounds crazy, but the ZQ8 suspension package is pretty impressive
for a truck, and a S10 was one out of trophies in '97. I'm betting a
well driven one could nab the Celicas and MX6's. And imagine the
bragging rights, being the first to win at Topeka in a *truck*... :)

Disgust amongst yourselves.
