>From experience.... autox really helped when I went vintage racing 4 years
ago at Texas World Speedway. I was running my autocross Mini Cooper S (road
legal too... a triple play!!!) with the local vintage group and I basically
autocrossed through the infield section.
Since I was on street tires (A008Gs) my line was sloppier than I would have
preferred but my autox experience helped me keep the car pointed in the
right direction on the rougher parts of the track. I like to think I had a
better feel for how far I could push the tires.
If anything road racing is easier in terms of steering/shifting work... you
just have to get used to running top gear near redline :-) Although after 6
twenty minute sessions over the weekend... your shoulders will be sore from
the harness straps.
