Dan,

I've been down this path a little as I'm thinking of
converting my '96 M-edition to a 1LE leather package
car to use 14" rims. I wrote Howard Duncan a while
ago and he replied to the effect that the finished car
must be a mechanical clone to one available from the
factory for that model year. Paint, decals, and
emblems are not included in this definition (his
words).

I'd think you would need the cruise and any other
moving parts to be a 'mechanical clone'. The radio is
kind of a gray area but if your current setup weighs
as much as the Bose system there's a clear cut case
for C&C IMO.

Whatever you decide on, get _every_ piece of factory
documentation you can lay hands on. Service manuals,
parts microfiches, Monroney sticker for a PEP,
whatever. If you get protested it is up to you to
show your car is legal, and the more bases you cover
the less likely it is that someone will surprise you
with a contradictory piece of evidence. At the rate
you have been improving it's quite possible that you
can trophy in Topeka, and it's worth the extra effort
to do the gumshoe work that no one can question the
car. (but on team.net, someone doubtless will anyway
;)

Cheers,
Craig B.
