I think it can be assumed that towing anything adds stress to a factory clutch.
When starting from a standstill, with extra weight attached to the vehicle, you
need more RPM to get going. More RPM to a clutch means wear.

The amount of wear is probably minimal. I tow with my RX-7 and really don't
worry about it...it's the 5 Pro's I will attend in 1999 with multiple drivers
that's killing me!

Your SIG line says you run in CSP so a heavy duty clutch from Mazda Motorsports
is a natural progression. They have various degrees of clamping force available
per your budget.

Good Luck.

Hi Guys (and Gals)----

I've heard that the 1.6 Miata clutch is a fairly weak unit, but I've
noticed the demise (slippage) of my clutch has happened very rapidly over
the course of this autocross season and I wonder if can be attributed to
towing a trailer rather than just the normal autocross abuse.

Are there any fixes other than "new clutch"?
Would the group recommend a stronger aftermarket clutch, and are there any
available for the 1.6, or do I have to upgrade to the 1.8 flywheel and get
a 1.8 clutch in the process?

Thanks for your advice/comments.
