I thought I would make you Nationals attendees aware of some of the things
in my adopted home town:

Driving- They have half of the streets and bridges torn up in this town.<!>
Those of you staying in one of the motels on Wanamaker shouldn't have any
problem but if you're staying downtown or at one of the motels on Topeka
Boulevard be aware that construction at 21st and just South of 37th may
slow you down. Leave a little early each morning for Forbes and you
shouldn't have any problem. Fortunately most of the traffic will be going
in the opposite direction. Getting on to/off of I-70 to South Topeka Blvd
is a REAL cluster____. Getting to Forbes from Wanamaker is a snap: just get
on I-470 Eastbound, go to the Hwy 75 bypass, take it to 55th street (or it
may be 54th or 56th, I don't remember but I think it's the first one you
come to), go East on 55th (or 54th, or 56th...) to Topeka Blvd and then
turn South (right) on Topeka and look for the signs for the main entrance
to Forbes Field.

Dining- Most of you may be aware of one of my favorite restaurants, The
Blind Tiger Brewery at 37th and South Kansas Avenue. Nice decor, casual
atmosphere, good food and great beer. If you are into barbeque, the best in
town (award winning) is Boss Hawg's in the Brookwood Shopping Center just
East of 29th and Oakley (about a mile and a half West of Topeka Blvd. on
29th). It's located back in the shopping center (West of the supermarket)
but worth looking for.<!> If you're staying on Wanamaker and don't want to
get lost in this "big" town, there are the usual chain restaurants all
along Wanamaker. My pick for a quick burger is the Vista Restaurant (really
just a hamburger joint). Their Vistaburger is the best burger in Topeka
(IMNSHO) and their malts and shakes are made the old fashioned way. Order a
Vistaburger and a small strawberry shake and they may ask you if you drove
the Miata today.<G>
