Subject: Altenburg Back In TriPoint SPEED Touring Car For Mosport

For Immediate Release

ALTENBURG TO DRIVE TRIPOINT TOURING CAR AT MOSPORT, POSSIBLY FOR
FINAL FOUR
RACES

CANOGA PARK, Calif. (August 13, 2002) - TriPoint Motorsports has
announced
that Jeff Altenburg will take over the No. 14 TriPoint
Motorsports/Mazdaspeed Mazda Protigi ES at Mosport International
Raceway
this weekend, and may pilot the car for the remainder of the SCCA
Pro Racing
SPEED Touring Car season.
Altenburg, the 2000 Trans-Am Series Rookie of the Year, drove the
car to a fifth-place finish at Le Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres on
August 4,
replacing Scott Bradley, who ran into budget constraints.
"We're very excited to have Jeff again with us at Mosport, with
hopes of retaining him for the remainder of the season," said
Mark Schuler,
TriPoint Motorsports Co-Owner. "We're working hard to give Mazda
the
Manufacturers' Championship, and Jeff's talents will certainly
help us with
that."
"I'm excited to again work with the TriPoint team," said
Altenburg.
"I've known the TriPoint guys for years from when I was running
in SCCA
Solo, and have watched their development with the Protigi over
the past two
seasons. They're a very professional team.
"It was difficult to learn the car under such strict parameters
at
Trois-Rivieres, so it will be nice to drive at a place without
walls. I'm
really looking forward to it."
Shuler added that the team is working toward having Bradley back
for
the entire 2003 season. Bradley, a rookie, earned the first-ever
pole for
the Mazda Protigi in SPEED Touring Car competition at Mosport
earlier this
year, a sign that Altenburg could be very tough this weekend.
In Altenburg's nine previous SPEED World Challenge starts, he has
recorded five top-10s, four top-fives and two runner-up finishes
at Road
Atlanta last year, driving a duPont Motorsport BMW. Altenburg has
won at
Mosport in endurance street stock racing, and finished second in
the 2000
Trans-Am.
With 31 Manufacturers' points, Mazda currently trails BMW (47)
and Acura
(34) in the standings.
Following the Mosport race, the series travels to Mazda Raceway
Laguna Seca (September 21), Road Atlanta (October 11) and
Virginia
International Raceway (October 27).
