Guys,
My concern with moving Solo I type events to the road racing side of the
club is that the road racing side will no doubt require the regions to fully
staff the track to run these events with licensed workers at much the same
levels that they now require for road races.

I honestly have to tell one and all that in my humble opinion the SCCA
doesn't have near enough vollunteer Flaggers and Corner workers, Timing,
Scoring people, Course Marshalls, medical, fire and towing people around to
staff all the potential events.

Here in the Western Pennsylvania there are only four of us who are licensed
Emergency Services workers. This year I think at least three of us will
carry National E/S licenses. Between the four of us we cover all SCCA races
at both Nelson's Ledges and BeaveRun Motorsports Park. We are asked to
provide an Emergency Services Chief for Steel Cities, Mahoning Valley,
North East Ohio, the Finger Lakes Region, and Western New York region races.

For 2005 that adds up to 24 days covering SCCA road races, plus covering two
weekends for the Pittsburgh Vintage Gran Prix, the One Lap appearance at
Nelson's Ledges and the Cart race in Cleveland. That is over 30 days of
coverage. Just where do we slip Solo I or Time Trial events into that
schedule?

All of us also have to cut grass, and do things with the wives. And then in
my case there are nine North Hills Sports Car Club autocrosses to attend
and a like number of Steel Cities solo events on the schedule.

It seems to me that the only way the SCCA going to have enough people
available to work all of these track events is to assemble a paid team of
track workers to cover the events. Does anyone out there see this
happening?
