Silicone and standard DOT 3 brake fluid are incompatible. To switch to
silicone, you first have to completely flush your brake system with alcohol.
Silicone will often leak past the seals in your wheel cylinders. It is also
quite expensive.
Although it is superior to DOT 3 and some people swear by it. I don't think
silicone is worth the cost and the postential problems in switchover. On a
new car or in a completely rebuilt brake system, it would be the way to go.
DOT 3 is fine as long as you change it periodically and don't let moisture
built up in it.
