>Zahid, you put an electric fuel pump in the trunk of your Spitfire 1500?
>Whatever for? The Spitfire has, and always has had, a mechanical pump...

Hi Jim,
You may have forgotten but I have a Weber DGEV setup in my
Spitfire and the mechanical pump just doesn't have enough pressure
to drive the Weber. In fact when my old electric fuel pump died, I
rebuilt the mechanical one to subsitute it and tried it on the SU
that was there originally. The result was a loss of high rev power.
I didn't think it would match the Weber after that. The final straw
was when I had to put soap on it to stop a leak on my way to Houston.
Soap by the way should be a part of a standard tool package for a
british car. It is great for stopping fuel or water leaks temporarily.
Putting the pump in trunk has the advantage that it doesn't short out
when you splash into a six inch puddle of rain water or you start
floating on a one foot puddle and try to reach the opposite bank in a
wretched hurry before the fuel pump shorts. This happened to me once.

>Jim Muller

My brother designs battery chargers for his business. He told me once
that a good battery charger should have the following features.

        1) A good output short protection circuit.
        2) Protection against polarity inversion.
        3) Trickle charging current not greater than 100ma else
the battery won't hold the charge. He says the best is
           really 30ma.
        4) Should be able to charge a completely run down battery
for 24 hours without overheating. That is, you should be
able to touch it at any point without burning your fingers.

There were others that I don't recall anymore.
