Sounds like your TR6 was a *great* deal.

Fuel starvation problems are easily verified with a can of starting
fluid.  If the car will start and run on starting fluid (another squirt
into the carbs every 2 or 3 seconds once the thing's started), you have
some kind of fuel system problem.  If it won't run on starting fluid,
look for no spark, misset timing, no compression, etc.

Once you decide that it is a fuel problem, check for fuel pressure at
the carb's (disconnect the hose and see if it squirt when the key is on,
in other words).  This will tell you whether you want to disassemble your
carb's or stare intently at the fuel pump.

Best of luck.  I'm sure that this car will give you many enjoyable saturday
afternoons with a rubber hose sticking out of your ear.
