Hi All,

Some strange '77 MGB problems. It's running, but there is
an intermittent clanging (!!) from the engine (accompanied by
a loss of power). When we first heard it, we pulled the wires on
the #1 plug, and with the higher resistance it went away. All seemed
fine... but it has returned. And it doesn't seem to connected with
a particular cylinder.

All the ignition stuff is new (rotor, cap, wires, plugs).
The compression is pretty good, a leak-down was so-so. The valves
are adjusted. The spark is good. etc.

The leak down indicates that a valve job is in order, but I have
no idea what could be causing the clanging. Any ideas of what to look
for when I pull the head? Thats assuming that I get the front end of
the Midget put back together before one of these damn earthquakes
knocks it off the jackstands...

Thanks,
Mike Wilson
