On the clanging MGB engine with no cylinder specific symptoms:
If the noise is comming from the very front of the engine could it be the
oil thrower within the timming chain cover? These items have always seemed
like a part that could easily make some clanging if given half a chance.
(I am new to this Email - hope I did this right)
