About the rings, the books say the top compression ring is the tappered one
and you fit it so the wider part is towards the bottom of the motor. The
second ring is the "stepped" ring and the step must be towards the lower
end ont he motor.

BUT the AE rings I got said this: stepped ring is the top ring and instal so
step faces upward. I assumed thisd was to accomodate the wear ridge (yes I did
have the cylinders honed and there was hardly any ridge at all). Then the
second compression ring was the tappered ring which you instal so the wider
part is towards the bottom.

This has bothered me, ie the discrepency between the books and the AE ring
instructions. Which is correct, did I imagine the AE ring instructions

Cheers DW
