Aaaaaagh!! Not roll pins again!

I'll have to look this up tonight: I have no recollection of shims
being mentioned in my book. I got the impression that the screw-em-in
dealymabobs (whatever those threaded collars around the output shafts
are called), controlled the end play, and that the roll pins did all the
locating of the halfshafts. However, while I've now had each halfshaft
on and off twice (don't ask), I was much more concerned with the bearing
ends than the transaxle ends. I didn't notice any shims in situ (which
doesn't mean much, given the POs apparent disregard for the Wisdom of
Hethel).

Also, I didn't have much trouble getting the roll pins in. Either the holes
lined up perfectly from both sides, or I got lucky four times in a row... .

Hear hear! And speaking of events in the Northwest, I just realized
that I've made a commitment to be out of town during the All-British
Field Meet on Labor Day weekend. Major bummer! (Unless I have the
dates wrong, which is entirely possible.)

Note to Phil: There may be something wrong with your mail routing -- I
received a reply today that you apparently sent on the 4th. Also, I've
seen about three copies of the saga of The Naked Frame.
