Cheers,

i have a '68 MGB and the alternator needs replacing. i have always
been really happy that my 'B is a '68 becausse it has negative earth.
however, since the '68 is the first year with negative earth the
alternator is unique to that year.

the original alternator has four connections. from '69 on all
alternators have three. i the extra wire is to ground the alternator.
my Moss distributor was kind enough to send me detailed instructions
about how to re-wire to accommedate the newer alternator. basically
it is to remove the ground and *properly* reconnect the 3 other wires.

i hate changing from the original and i hate electrical work.
but Lucas does not make externally grounded alternators anymore, and
the alternator is bad, so ...

are the Moss guys right? do i have to go with a three prong
alternator? is it possible to rebuild the original?

i will probably have to go with the three prong unit.
the instructions will be enough to get me thru the re-wiring,
but if anyone could provide some additional information, i will
appreciate it.
