This looks like a good thread to mention something interesting that I am
sorta lookin into (I say sorta because I have 2 new correct thermostats for
my TR3 and do not need one soon). I have recently noticed that the correct
thermostat with the sleave that moves to open or cover a bipass is no
longer available. I have seen catalogues tell their potential customers to
purchase their thermostats and block off the bipass for their TR2-4A.
Well, owning both a TR3 and a Land Rover, I couldn't help but notice the
thermostat I recently put into the Land Rover bears a stong resemblance to
the TR 2-4A thermostat. They are both the same diameter and both have sliding
sleaves to block off a side bipass. I did not know where my spare TR thermostat
was when I installed the Land Rover's so I could not compare them side by side.
I have since found the TR spare, and next time I make an order, I'll try
to remember to get a spare thermostat for my Land Rover.
If my guess is correct, people can get the correct TR2-4A (no longer available
through TR sources) thermostat by getting a thermostat for a Land Rover
series IIA or III 2.25 L engine (mind you it should be the correct one for
the Land Rover engine & not a sleveless aftermatket sleeze part).
