To Brian Hutchison, concerned about the quality of the Deluxe Carpet
Kit from Victoria British:

I have a 67 series 5 Alpine, and I bought the Deluxe Carpet Kit from
Vicky Brit this summer. The kit fits and looks relatively good,
although I can't say that I was impressed by it. I am not sure what
is "Deluxe" about it. I'm not even sure that it is wool although it
might be. It doesn't feel like it. If memory serves, the carpet is
between 4 and 5 mm thick (3/8 inch) and doesn't feel deluxe when
running your toes on it!

The one I ordered was black. There were quite a number of pieces and
only a few (i.e., the main flat panels that go under your feet, a
maybe the pieces that fit on the inner rocker panels) that were
finished on the edge. (Finished with a piece of ribbon, folded over
the edge so that the carpet doesn't fray.) The piece that covers the
back (where the battery is) wasn't finished, and my original carpet
was. The carpet that covers the transmission tunnel isn't shaped -
part of it is sewn together with a curved seam so that it does not
bunch up to much around the stick shift - which of course fits through
a hole cut in the carpet (no finishing either).

I wouldn't yank out your old carpets until you had the new one - just
so that you can compare all the parts they send. I still haven't
figured out where two pieces go!

I am not sure what I would suggest. I think if I had to do it again, I
don't think that I would buy the kit - it was pretty expensive when
you considered shipping and brokerage fees into Canada. If you still
have the old carpets, you can buy the carpet and padding (the kit does
not include under-padding) from a car upholstery shop for a lot less,
or have the shop do it for a few $$ more.

The other possibility is to figure out what is the difference between
deluxe and standard kits.

I hope this helps.

Louis

ps - This was the only purchase I have made from V.B. where I wasn't
completely satisfied.
