Well, some types of plastic are attacked by laquer thinner. The effect is
not always immediate, but after exposure the parts tend to slowly get brittle.
One trick we use in another hobby is to use (new) brake fluid as paint/laquer
remover. Works fine, and doesn't seem to attack the plastic. As always, try
it in hidden spot first. Often, a bit of scrubbibg with a tooth brush helps
remove the paint. Scrub with soap and water afterwards.
The cheapest brake fluid seems to work fine.
