This will screw up your mixture because there is supposed to be
air coming in those tubes leaning things out.  If the crankcase
end is plugged you will also spew oil out past various seals.  I would
hook up the breather hose again or replace the carbs with a set of
older needles which don't have openings for a breather hose and run
the crankcase breather hose to some type of container in the engine
compartment to keep from dripping oil from yet another place.

Oh yes, I almost forgot....for some reason the mech. at the garage
disconnected the crankcase breather tube from the carbs and replaced it with 
a small tube connecting the two brass piped on the carbs together...will
this have any effect on the running of the car...apart from spewing out
crankcase fumes into the engine bay area.
