I've had excellent results with a product called Leatherique.
It is a water-based paint for vinyl & leather.  I sent the
company a swatch of the original vinyl & they custom-matched the 
color for me.  This was several years ago, however, so I don't know
if they're still around.  I found them in Hemmings.
