Discussion of costs and availability of 6v batteries refers:

FWIW, you don't have to shell out for a purpose designed 6 volt spark-
box. Go to a battery dealer and pick up a newish 12v battery with
one dead cell -- the dead cell should be at one end. What
you then do is cut the battery in half preserving 3 intact cells and
the lead interconnector at the point where the cut is made. Voila --
one 6 volter! Ideally try to get a medium truck battery -- bigger
capacity and they often have a built in carry handle, ideal for
lifting out of under-seat batt compartments. Of course you will have
to modify one of the power leads to suit.
Finally, 6 or 12v, if you have a "classic" era battery box (say
would go well in the compt of a '52 Morris Minor or '58 Vauxhall
Victor, etc.), it's not rocket science to unseal the lid, pop in a
set of new plates, then reseal -- for that total "period" look!
