Jim,

I spent a few years in Phoenix and actually drove my 74 Spitfire from NJ to
Phoenix. (I recall that up in the high altitudes it kept vapor locking and
dying).

Anyway, I went out to AZ thinking it would be LBC paradise. What I found
out is just how miserable it can be driving an open air car when it is 115
degrees plus. The LBC cooling systems also have quite a time keeping up
with the demands of AZ, I finally removed the thermostat completely.

Being a starving student I regrettably could not afford to keep the Spit as
a fair weather driver and traded it in for a Diesel Rabbit with A/C. On
the other hand I like to think I saved the rather pristine Spit from the
East Coast's salt and weather.

Actually, from what I recall of my two years in AZ, convertibles of any kind
were not nearly as popular as one might imagine. It is simply too hot.

Regards,

               Mike Israel
