If you have 50,000 miles on the engine without any head work, I expect a
large part of your oil consumption is due to worn valve guides. These wear
rapidly on my TR6, and when they wear, oil drains past them to the
combustion chamber, where it is burned.

If your valve guides are worn, this might in fact reduce your oil
consumption. But you will experience accelerated wear to the valve train,
and a certain amount of oil will still trickle past the valve guides. So
instead of curing the problem, you'll just be compounding it. The last time
I had my head reconditioned, I payed $60 to a qualified machine shop. After
50,000 miles, I suggest you do the same. In either case, I suggest that you
refit the external oil feed.
