They are related. The first coupes were Harrington Alpines, and these
ran at LeMans in the early '60s. After the Tiger became a reality,
Harrington, along with Lister, built some (3?) racing Tiger coupe
bodies for the 1964 LeMans; Carroll Shelby supplied the engines. Two
cars started the race. They did not do well, and retired with engine
problems. According to "Tiger: The Making of a Sports Car", Shelby
ended up giving Rootes a full refund.

As has been stated earlier, only one non-racing Harrington Tiger was
produced.

It also appears there were some other Tiger coupes built for other
races. I thumbed through the abovementioned Tiger book, but was
unable to find out just exactly how many of these racing Tiger coupes
were produced.

If it was the real thing, your friend's barn was holding quite a
valuable treasure.
