I heartily recommend Nisonger to repair your engine temp. guage.  For the 
Smiths/Jeager combination oil preasure/engine temp. gauge they do a 
virtually concours rebuild for 90$ US.  Looks like new, works like new, 
guaranteed for 12 months.  And, No, I don't work for them.
