Mention of hydrogen embrittlement during the wire wheel discussion
reminded me of yet another of the many Nygaard twins sagas.

For new list members and old timers who have forgotten, the Nygaard
twins were friends of mine who co-owned and raced a Cobra for several
years in Phoenix, AZ SCCA Regional events.

The list of options available for a new Cobra in 1964 was rather limited
but they got the "works" which included chrome wire wheels and a chrome
roll bar. One of the first things they discovered, to their chagrin,
was that the car wouldn't pass SCCA tech inspection. There wasn't much
they could do about the wheels other than replace them (see csx2577.gif
in pub/sol/Images) but they did come up with a dirt cheap solution for
the roll bar problem: a can of flat black spray paint form a local
hardware store.
