I've been looking at Jag MkIIs for a long time. What engine and gearbox
does it have, btw? Anyway, they seem to go anywhere from about $4000 to
$25000 "on the average" depending on condition. The one you describe above
would seem to go in the lower end, $4000 - $5000. If it is in good mechanical
condition and a good driver, add a $1000 or two. I'm only guestimating now
though, since I haven't seen one for sale in so long -- at least a year.
So I'm not sure of the current market. I haven't been buying any
old/classic/antique car mags lately to check, neither.
The-One-That-Got-Away-Department:
Back in early 1989 I saw an ad for a 1960 British Racing Green Jaguar MkII
3.8 Litre with manual gearbox, in good shape and used daily, asking $4500.
The car was in the town I lived in. How perfect!
That one would probably go for two or three times as much now! But I
couldn't afford one then since me missus was 7 months preggers with our
second kiddie!
As an avid MkII fan, I saved an article posted to this list (10 May 1993):
"Overview of '50s-60's era Jaguar Saloons"
(Rick Lindsay, Lawrence Buja, Shel Hall)
which also includes some info from "British Car" magazine posted by Mark
Turner. It's mostly technical and design-oriented and doesn't really
discuss value. Let me know if you're (anyone) is interested unless
any one of the above authors would like to repost.
