Sorry, wrong. The TR2 and very early TR3 used SU H4 carbs. Most TR3s and
the early TR4 used the SU H6. Here's the TR4 carburetter saga:

Engine No. CT1E through CT16800E SU H6
           CT16801E through CT16900E Zenith-Stromberg 175CD
           CT16901E through CT21470E SU H6
           CT21471E through end Zenith-Stromberg 175CD

Mine is a very early TR4, which has (and is supposed to have) H6 SU's.

Early TR4A's continued with the 175CD, but a switch was made back to SU
(but this time the HS6) midway through TR4A production. This was the
first use of the HS6 in the TR series of Triumphs. The HS-series was a
slightly more modern design than the H-series (which dates back to the
late 1930's)

Since you mentioned "solid axle cars", are you thinking of the TR4, all of
which were solid axle on what was essentiallly the TR2/3 chhassis? Or the
TR4A which could be had with IRS _or_ a solid axle on the new chassis?
