I am trying to locate and purchase the 27MM x 1 large
Lock nut inside the 5 speed transmission. It is
located behind the 5th gear on the output shaft and it
holds the 5th (overdrive gear) in place on the shaft.
It is the final part I need to rebuild my 5 speed.
There may be a similar lock nut in the 4 speed, but I
do not know.
The P.O. couldn't get this nut off, so he cut it off,
and I can't find anything similar at the parts stores
or wrecking yards... Anyone have an old 5 speed that
is not repairable and would be willing to sell me the
27MM lock nut?
Are there any other 27 MM fine pitched nuts used on
our cars that I could try and locate and use as a
substitute?
Thanks for your help! Many of you have sent me
diagrams and parts lists for the 5 speed... This
transmission was in baggies when I bought my car. You
on the list have helped me bring it back to life, and
get this car running...
