I've blown up a battery before.  Luckily it was in my brother's TR6.
Unluckily it made a real mess out of the beautiful red crinkle finish valve
cover I had just put on the car for him.  Bummer.  It's also kind of hard to
breath when the battery explodes - nasty.

Someone once posted a picture of exploded battery damage, not a pretty
sight. Easier to buy a new battery.
