Non Starter?

I can't get it to start? Took it to the shop. They got it to start by
rotating the distributor about 180 degrees. It will run for about 45
seconds then sounds like its starving for gas?

Ran fine before it got too hot? Head gasket was blown. Replaced head and
gasket and set lash at .017 cold. Could it have jumped time? What would
cause this to happen.
