George,

For the starter use POR 15. I did and it came out very nice after thorough
cleaning first.

If you have a buffer you can polish out the valve cover, carb domes and
other aluminum bits. It is very messy and you may want to send it to a
plater to have them polish it. Do NOT bead blast aluminum except for cast
surfaces. You can use plastic media or walnut shells.

You can clean up the alternator by cleaning the aluminum and some paint on
the other areas.
