Congratulations on your new roadster.
Motor vehicle titles are controlled by state governments and therefore there
are some differences from state to state. Assuming your 1969 Roadster was
last titled in Texas the following would be my suggestions:
Obtain a Certified Copy of a Texas Certificate of Title.
1. If you know that there was no lien listed on the title.
A. Call Texas Department of Transportation "Fax A Form" on demand Toll
Free number 1-888-232-7033 and request form VTR-34 "Application for a
Certified Copy of a Texas Certificate of Title for a Motor Vehicle."
B. This form requires the original signature of the owner as listed on
the title. Costs $2.00 to mail in the application and get a Certified Copy.
Instructions and list of addresses to mail it are on the back of the form.
C. Have the owner endorse the Certified Copy of Title on the back.
D. Take the endorsed Certified Copy, Bill of Sale, etc. to your local
Title office and have the Title transferred to your name.
James, you are dealing with Government Bureaucrats, so do not get
discouraged or angry if someone is not helpful or delays the process. Texas
Department of Transportation has gotten extremely picky in the last year or
two. If you are persistant, you will get your title and be driving your
roadster and feeling the wind in your hair soon with a big smile on your
face.
