You had me real confused for a second.  I was thinking wait a minute, a 
closed wrench and a flat screwdriver!  Where do I put a 27mm socket under 
the valve cover???  Then I realized you were turning the crankshaft.  I 
just reach down and turn the fan, which I guess wouldn't be a good idea if 
you have a late car with fan clutch, or maybe not good for the fan in 
general...

Another way of looking at the valves is as a mirror, four valves on each 
side.  Imagine folding the head in half and adjusting the valve that the 
open valve falls on.  Same results as the rule of 9.  There should be two 
valves depressed at any given time.
